A Successful Tutoring Session
The key to a successful tutoring session starts with a tutor who is warm
and inviting to their student. The student has feel comfortable around
you, smile often and crack jokes to break the ice, if you sense the
student is shy or nervous. Introduce yourself politely keep the small
talk to a minimum because the time in a tutoring session is limited. Ask
the student some self assessment questions like what are your strengths
and weaknesses as a writer? This allows you to get an idea of what you
need to help the student with in their writer. Be an active listener,
you out have to listen to all the ideas your student has for the paper
they want to write. Then you have to format their ideas the way the
teacher wants for the paper. The tutor has to have a professional
attitude and plenty of patience some people need lots of help due to
language barriers so be mindful.
A good tutor prompts their students by guiding them in the right
direction. Never just give the student the answer try your best to let
them find it I out on their own. One way to prompt students to find
their own mistakes is have them read their paper out loud. This helps
ideas to collaborate between the tutor and student, organization of
ideas, editing grammatical mistakes and make sure the paper has a nice
flow. When critiquing a student's paper it is important for every
negative comment you make about a students find something positive that
they did. Discouraging students writing will not inspire them to write
they will doubt their writing abilities.

my fourth tutoring observation.
fourth Tutoring Observation
I have been tutored by this tutor before; she tutored two students at once. I thought this session was going to be a disaster because the two students were on to different levels one student was ESL and the other was on English 101. The ENG 101 student wrote an essay on how interpersonal decisions affect a person after society has found the person’s decision morally wrong (abortion). The ESL student was going over English grammar worksheets. The tutor had great time management with the two students; she never lost her place when pausing to assist both students. The ESL student began to grasp the material given to her really quickly and complete the work with only a few errors here and there. The student began to get excited and wanted to keep doing more and more worksheets. The ENG 101 was focused too much on creating the perfect sentence. Both students would definitely be returning to the tutor because they told me they love her and they felt comfortable working with her because she made them laugh all the time.

Second Tutoring Observation
The tutor started the session off badly he was very boring and he just corrected all of the students grammatical errors. He also got the students name wrong over and over again. He did explain to the student why you cannot put a quote in the beginning of a paragraph because without a topic sentence to guide the writer to express an idea the reader will not understand what is going on. The student was able to understand how her ideas did not support her quote. The student and the tutor began creating topic sentences to support her quotes. Student was an ESL learner and had had difficulty with English words. Tutor didn’t really offer another chance to work together and seem happier when it was over.

second Tutoring Observation
My second experience observing a tutoring session, the tutor started the session very happy and eager to help the student. He asked the student about the assignment and was constantly telling the student in an argumentative essay you don’t have agree 100% on what the writer is saying in the article you can choose what parts you agree with. The student didn’t argue her case she just agreed with everything the writer said even though she did not really agree when she talked to the tutor and I. The author of the article was neutral. The student seemed in a rush and wanted everything to be perfect. The student’s ideas were scattered throughout the paper the tutor created a diagram like this:
¶1 Statement Z
1st idea to support statement Z
2nd idea to support statement Z
3rd idea to support statement Z
In the end the student began to use the outline to organize her ideas I liked the diagram and will use it in the future when writing papers. The student didn’t have many grammatical errors or any major writing problems. It was a very quick tutoring session because the student had a paper already written. The student spent the whole session rearranging her paper so it could be organized.
